Energorisk, Ltd. was founded in 1992 and became one of the first private enterprises in Ukraine specializing in implementation of:

 • scientific research aimed on the substantiation the safety of nuclear power plants (NPP) and other nuclear installations;

 • expert and analytical works in the field of nuclear energy;

 • project designing systems and equipment for nuclear power plants;

 • development of design and operational documentation for nuclear power plants, research reactors, storage of spent nuclear fuel, reprocessing of radioactive waste and other objects.

Energorisk, Ltd. was one of the first companies in Ukraine that obtained a license for safety-related engineering works for nuclear facilities. In the same time "Energorisk" is included in the list of recommended suppliers NNEGC Energoatom.

Over 20 years of intense activity, the company has established itself as a leader in the field of safety assessment of nuclear power plants in Ukraine. Completed several major research projects on orders of nuclear power plants and NNEGC Energoatom, large-scale international projects for all operating nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Strengthened scientific linkages with industry leaders, design institutes and research centers in Ukraine and Russia.

The cooperation with specialized national laboratories and a number of leading U.S. engineering and analytical companies of Germany, USA, Spain has been established. During the years of activity the enterprise increased more than ten times the number of highly skilled engineering staff, established and strengthened infrastructure that allowed to perform complex of assessment works of plant safety in the most efficient manner., the development of major sections of safety analysis reports, engineering support for the operating organization and bodies State regulation of nuclear safety.

Today, having a real and unique to the Ukraine's experience in organizing, planning and implementation of works and having the capacity, "Energorisk” performs the following operations:

 • a comprehensive safety analysis of nuclear power facilities with the use of modern analytical software and advanced deterministic and probabilistic methods of research;

 • development of the main analytical chapters and report applications for safety analysis of existing and under construction power plants:

 • probabilistic safety analysis;

 • analysis of design basis accident;

 • analytical and scientific and technical support activity for the operating organization and regulatory body, the development of design and operational documentation;

 • implementation of risk-oriented approaches to solving operational problems, to the organization and implementation of regulatory activities;

 • environmental impact assessment of nuclear installations on the environment and population;

 • scientific and technical support for the organization of emergency response and protection of personnel and the population in radiation accidents.


International cooperation in the field of analysis and strengthening safety of nuclear facilities is an important area of Energorisk, Ltd. activities.

Having started to develop scientific relations with lead foreign and international organizations from the very first days of its over than 20 years professional history, Energorisk, Ltd has established proven and efficient links with research institutions and engineering companies of Europe, US and Russia, specializing in scientific and technical work in nuclear energy.

Nowadays, wide involvement in international cooperation activities facilitates efficient use of human and technical resources of the company for conducting comprehensive local and international projects. It also fosters keeping up-to-date the experience of the staff, allows sharing knowledge between partner organizations and combining their efforts for solving challenging scientific and engineering tasks.

Cooperation with US

Cooperation with engineering companies and National Laboratories of US started in mid 90s when the US Department of Energy (DOE) launched a comprehensive project on In-Depth Safety Assessment of the Ukrainian NPPs under the International Nuclear Safety Program (INSP). Energorisk, Ltd. was selected as a main local partner for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) that operated the projects on behalf of DOE, and for its US partners and contractors: Argonne and Brookhaven National Laboratories, SCIENTECH, Inc., Data Systems and Solutions (DS&S). During almost ten years of the program activities, Energorisk, Ltd. conducted a number of probabilistic and deterministic safety analysis projects for all four operating Ukrainian NPPs. Participation in the program made essential contribution to development of the safety analysis capabilities in Energorisk, Ltd. and brought to the company the advanced western technologies of accident analysis and PSA. In turn, the Energorisk, Ltd. had efficiently assisted the US partners in transferring technology to the Ukrainian Nuclear Operator “Energoatom” and the NPP staff, resulting in establishing necessary safety analysis infrastructure and developing necessary technical capabilities at Ukrainian NPPs. This technical basis has been further successfully used for development of Safety Analysis Reports for all Ukrainian NPPs.

Cooperation with GRS (Germany)

Energorisk, Ltd. cooperates with the GRS, the globally known German organization that provides technical support to regulatory authorities in the country and at the international level, since 1993-94. Historically, the cooperation has concentrated mainly on the joint studies on safety analyses of the WWER nuclear plants, in particular, on reactor and containment thermal hydraulics, severe accident analyses, evaluation of risks. Energorisk, Ltd. widely uses in its projects the powerful safety analysis computer codes, developed by GRS (e.g., ATHLET, COCOSYS and graphic visualizer ATLAS). German company has provided major assistance in training Energorisk staff on code usage, and in developing and verifying sophisticated models for conducting safety analyses for all type of reactors operating in Ukraine. Due to successful cooperation in the field of code application, model development and improvement, GRS codes have become one of the main tools being used by Energorisk, Ltd. for analyses of the design and beyond design basis accidents for Ukrainian NPPs.

Cooperation with IAEA

Involvement in IAEA co-operation activities has been especially positive factor for developing technical capabilities at Energorisk Ltd., being one of the first Ukrainian engineering companies dealing with nuclear safety and risk analyses.

Starting from 1993, the Energorisk experts had participated in several IAEA regional Technical Co-operation projects on the assessment of VVER-440 and VVER-1000 safety, and in Coordinated Research Projects, such as, for instance:

 • IAEA Technical Cooperation project RER/9/020 “Accident Analysis of VVER-1000 Model 320 Type Reactor. Reference plant: Zaporizhzhya NPP”

 • IAEA Technical Cooperation project RER/9/004 on “Evaluation of Selected Safety Aspects of VVER-440 Model 213 Nuclear Power Plants”

 • Coordinated Research Project "Validation of Accident and Safety Analysis Methodology";

 • Coordinated Research Project on Establishment of Thermo-physical Properties Data Base for Materials of LWRs and HWRs

Participation in IAEA projects, consultant meetings and scientific workshops remains for our company a useful instrument for sharing knowledge and exchanging experience with the colleagues from all over the world. Respectively, Energorisk, Ltd. continues and intends to further extend its involvement in relevant IAEA cooperation programs. The nearest new activity will be Coordinated Research Project for severe accident investigation, where we intend to conduct benchmark calculations using MELCOR code.fg

European projects

There are two main directions of Energorisk participation in activities, co-ordinated, operated and/or funded at the European level:

 • Involvement in the EC TACIS/INSC projects;

 • Involvement in the projects funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).


Energorisk staff participates in EC projects staring from 1996 when the EC launched several comprehensive nuclear safety projects to support Regulatory Authority of Ukraine under the Technical Assistance to Commonwealth of Independent States (TACIS) Program. Since that time our specialists participated in more than ten TACIS/INSC projects cooperating with the experts from the lead European institutions and engineering companies.

The company experience in TACIS Program starts from participation in the project “Support of Ukrainian regulatory authority in the organization of settlement codes certification” (1997), in a team with the Spanish company CIEMAT and the Institute VTT (Finland).

In more recent period the company has participated in two projects under the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Co-operation (INSC):

In 2010-2014 Energorisk, Ltd as a part of the international consortium with the companies TVONS (Finland) and Risk Engineering (Bulgaria) participated in the project EuropeAid/130025/C/SER/UA „Accident Management Guidelines and Procedures: Improvement of the Emergency Documentation“. The project has been completed recently, and has been positively evaluated by both the Beneficiary (“Energoatom”) and the European Commission.

In 2011-2013 Energorisk, Ltd as a part of the international consortium with UJV Rez (Czech Republic), VUJE (Slovak Republic) and NPP Operational Support Institute (Ukraine), participated in EC Project EuropeAid/127695/C/SER/UA „Development of the Strategy for the long-term NPP Safety Management in Ukraine“ project code U2.01/07.


Energorisk started co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2007, through providing servcies to the Project Management Unit at the Chornobyl NPP site in development and independent assessment of the licensing-related documents for interim spent nuclear fuel dry storage facility (ISF-2). This project has been successfully progressing for several years and has developed in a set of further co-operation activities.


Energorisk staff policy takes into account the transition period in Ukraine's economy. The enterprise includes a small number of full-time permanent employees, performing works based on the individual employment agreements the enterprise involves NPP specialist, Ukrainian and Russian scientific / technical and engineering organizations. This approach allows to attract the required additional staff to solve a specific problems in the presence of permanent staff in the number of 35-40 highly skilled specialists. At the present moment the enterprise has the experience of successful implementation of several major national and international projects, the development of which formed the team of up to 120 engineers.

At this time, to the enterprise permanent staff includes the engineering-technical workers with practical experience in field of atomic energy, experts in the field of probabilistic methods thermal-hydraulic and analysis, the reliability of equipment and human factors, and so on. Most of them have experience in project and scientific research institutions, nuclear and thermal power plants, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

Permanent staff is educated and trained in modern Western methodology of safety analysis, using specialized accounting software. Key personnel have been trained in leading Western companies in Europe and the United States: GRS, Germany; IRSN, France; SCIENTECH, BNL, INEEL, USA; training courses, seminars and workshops organized by the IAEA, OECD / NEA, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the USA Department of Energy. Qualifications verified with relevant certificates. Staff certified in the established order of knowledge of regulations and standards on nuclear and radiation safety.

To participate in the works widely involved NPP technical staff, for which directly implemented security analysis. Working with such experts is based on individual employment agreements. The most qualified experts who know the design and operating characteristics of their units are engaged as consultants for the period of performance contracts / projects. Besides, to solve specific technical problems

Specific technical tasks and problems the interprise involves highly specialized experts from leading design and research organizations in the industry, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading experts from other countries that operate reactors of former USSR (Russia, Bulgaria).


The specifics of the safety analysis to date requires powerful computers and specialized computational programs.

Energorisk, Ltd. basically uses software developed in countries that have created modern PSA methodology and computational analysis of emergency operation at nuclear power plants, and the most advanced in improving the computational resources (USA, Germany).

"Energorisk" has the right to commercial use of computational programs on the territory of Ukraine. The enterprise has the necessary basis of modern computer and organizational techniques. Technical equipment of the enterprise was sufficient to resolve the engineering and scientific-technical problems.


Energorisk, Ltd. policy is the production of goods and provision of services that satisfy customer needs and comply with quality standards and requirements of normative documents. To achieve this goal was developed and implemented a quality management system corresponding to the requirements of State Standard ISO 9001-2001.

Quality of services provided through the implementation of works in a systematic manner according to internal documents of the enterprise, designed in such a way as to prevent the appearance of the nonconforming product at all stages of performance.

Implementation and effectiveness of quality management system is determined by the analysis of activities, monitoring of processes and products, as well as internal and external audits.
